Our Schools

The Bridge Assisted

Learning School

The Bridge Assisted Learning Schools opened the doors of it’s first school in Lonehill in January 2018, filling a niche demand in education by catering to students who face certain learning barriers and social or emotional challenges. Today we are proud to have two schools, one in Lonehill and the other in Morningside (starting in January 2024).

The Bridge School might be the perfect fit for your child.

We understand that you may have questions or seek further information regarding our schools, and we believe a meeting with our principal would provide an excellent opportunity to address any questions and gain a comprehensive understanding of our school's offerings.

The meeting will serve as an open forum for discussion, during which you can learn more about our assisted learning school, the methodologies we employ, and the support systems we have in place for students. Our principal will be available to share valuable insights, answer your queries, and provide detailed explanations about our school's commitment to enhancing the learning experience of each student.

Children of The Bridge School are often not catered for in a mainstream educational environment. The Bridge School caters for students with average to above-average intellectual ability and learning potential. For students whose learning is impacted by challenges such as ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, or children who have been through illness or trauma which has affected their scholastic progress, The Bridge School has been a lifeline.

A neurodiverse approach is followed at The Bridge, ensuring that these students are included, catered for and receive the additional support they require. When students join our school, we believe that they are taking the first step toward their best future. The Bridge caters for pre-schoolers in the form of Grade R, all the way to Grade 12. Details of the available Grades at each of our schools can be found on the campus specific page.

At The Bridge Assisted Learning School, we know that each student is on a personal path leading them to their future. We provide students with the kickstart they need to get them to Matric and beyond, whether it is to tertiary studies or setting them up to pursue their own path.

Through our neurodiverse approach, we provide a premium, inclusive

education for students with diverse needs.

We actively create opportunities for self-fulfilment and  self-actualisation for all students, to develop their potential regardless of differences. Each student is taught according to their unique needs and in accordance with an individualised development plan.

Having a multi-dimensional specialist team ensures that we can follow a neurodiverse approach, ensuring that all students are included, catered for, and supported according to their needs. All therapies are available in-house, and your child will benefit from therapists and teachers working together according to an individualised development plan.

Academics

  • Neurodiverse Approach

All people have different strengths and weaknesses, and all students learn in different ways. We do not   apply a blanket approach, but rather specialise in assisting a child to overcome their challenges while building on their strengths. In so doing, we have created a community within which our students can develop to their maximum potential in a safe and supportive environment, allowing them to thrive during and beyond their school years.

  • Small classes

With limited and controlled student numbers per class,  we ensure an inclusive environment where each student receives the individual attention they require.

  • Unique learning paths

Each student will undergo a range of assessments both before and after joining The Bridge. The insights gained from assessments are used to develop an individual learning path for each student.

  • Individualised reports and feedback

Our teachers follow a personalised educational approach where teaching practices are adapted according to the needs of the students. This differentiated approach within the classroom is an  important part of the unique academic offering at The Bridge.

  • Mainstream Curriculum

At The Bridge, we are currently phasing in an IEB-aligned curriculum. Our limited class sizes are optimal for the assisted learning environment.

Therapies

  • Therapies included in the fees: Grade R - 3

Each student may receive the required therapies after consultation with The Bridge Learning Support Team. This may also include combined Speech/Occupational therapy sessions or small group therapies with students who may have similar needs.

Specialist Teams

  • Experienced teachers

Our teachers are all highly qualified and experienced educators. They are either already specifically and additionally qualified in their area of expertise (remedial, inclusive, and special needs qualifications, or management degrees or diplomas), or they in the process of attaining additional specialist qualifications.

  • Junior Primary Therapy Centre

Our Therapy Centre offers a range of specialist services including Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is available upon request and not included in the fees.

Path to Matric and beyond

  • We provide a path into tertiary

We provide a path into university, college or further studies for our students. Depending on their subject selections, they can obtain a Higher Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor's Pass. Please speak to us to plan your child's path. They can stay with us from Grade R-Grade 12 and obtain an IEB Matric.
